Acterna HST-3000 Handheld Consumer Services Tester

Improving the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of DSL services
With a market primed for broadband, operators are rapidly deploying DSL in their networks to deliver multimedia services over the existing copper wire in the local loop. Traditionally, one set of technicians performed individualized tests that qualified the copper while another set conducted DSL services testing and verification. In todayメs market, however, operators can no longer afford the time, capital expense, and labor costs to conduct tests separately and incrementally. Furthermore, test solutions must generate results that have a strategic impact throughout an operatorメs entire organization. This may include building customer loyalty by locating and fixing problems quickly, improving profitability by performing more tests with less staff, or leveraging workforce productivity by automating processes, methods, and procedures.

The Acterna HST-3000 is a modular handheld tester that can be built to order, to test the copper, test the DSL service and improve the process. Technicians use the HST-3000 copper base instrumentand the copper service interface module (SIM) to qualify, maintain, and troubleshoot the local loop.

VDSL-CX/WB2 SIM - Conexant ADSL2+/VDSL2 Testing Wide Band 2 (Up to 30MHz) Copper Test

Qualifying a very high speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) service that can transport high definition television (HDTV) and triple-play services requires more than a simple Go/No-Go tester. One lightweight, robust, battery-operated JDSU HST-3000 tester equipped with the Infineon Technologies VDSL2 module offers more capability than any other handheld tester on the market. This tester gives both technicians and telco engineers the confidence and the necessary power to complete the job, and get it done right.

CUVDSL-CX Module

The HSTメs copper testing features allow quick turn-up and troubleshooting of the services provided over copper. This includes testing with DVOM, opens, power (Mains) influence (PI), noise, balance, time domain reflectometer (TDR), resistive fault locate (RFL), load coil detect, loss, wideband transmission impairment measurement set (WBTIMS), caller ID, and POTS dialer.

The HST provides process customization through on-board auto tests and allows workflow improvements via connectivity to craft access terminals and back-office systems.

The copper testing features include the following:

  • Measuring AC and DC voltage, current, and resistance
  • Measuring to opens (length of cable)
  • Measuring balance, noise, and power (Mains) influence (PI)
  • Locating cable faults with the TDR or RFL
  • Detecting load coils
  • Measuring loop loss (voiceband) including receiving and sending tones; transmission impairment testing (noise, SNR, return loss)
  • Voice service and caller ID (CLID) testing
  • WBTIMS and WB2 TIMS testing including sending/ receiving tones; measuring wideband, impulse, and spectral noise; and transmission impairment testing (noise, SNR, return loss, crosstalk)
  • Automatic testing using scripts, including POTS close out, good pair check, and wideband auto tests.

VDSL-CX VDSL with Conexant chipset

The capabilities of the VDSL features include the following:

  • Variety of VDSL testing modes for service verification, local loop testing, and network connectivity.

Mode Function
VDSL Modem emulate mode Used to test basic VDSL physical layer rates, quality and line statistics.
Also used for testing the following types of lines: IP over Ethernet and PPP over Ethernet
VDSL Through mode Used for testing the following types of lines: Bridged Ethernet and PPP over Ethernet.
Ethernet TE mode Used for testing IP over Ethernet and PPP over Ethernet.
  • Wide range of compatibility with industry standards
  • On-board web browser for validating the customerメs internet connection
  • Trace route and FTP/HTTP throughput capability
  • Customer premise equipment emulation to turn up and troubleshoot VDSL service, including Ethernet terminal equipment (TE)
